It looks like one of these to me. They were all petrol engined with the 3622cc V-8, and I don't see any 4-D badges, so maybe the diesel is a later conversion.

In fact, this is it!

Naming revised to remove '4D' to reflect original model.

Hi the et6 is mine, Any thing you want to know about the truck. Original engine was a V8, changed that for a 4D and that was flat as a fart. Since then fitted a 6 cylinder ford dover engine. Not any faster, but has more umph when you need it. Bought the truck in 2001, spent the next couple of years restoring it.The original reg was the home office number, that was pxp801. DVLA would not let me keep it, not on their system.

thericopete wrote .... the Home Office number was PXP 901.

From a series issued in London Jan 55 to May 56 "allocated in blocks" which usually means official fleet/departments. No further info found, but the next issue series RXP is noted as 501-999 allocated to Government Departments.

I would take issue with your comment that "allocated in blocks" indicates government departments. Blocks were, and are, allocated to garages, the supplier of my last car showed me his current block of twenty and said "choose one". Examples in the past are the allocations to Stewart and Arden for Morris cars, to University Motors for MG and to the Vauxhall Motor Company.

I said usually, but agree other block allocations made - eg local authorities, taxis/bus fleets, public organisations (BBC, GPO, utilities, etc), big private sector fleets (rentals, car firms, distribution fleets, transport firms) etc. But there's a difference between someone applying for and getting a block allocation (eg your garage with a batch of 20) and a series being designated as "allocated in blocks" in Glass's lists.

However I'm not sure we're really disagreeing about anything substantial .....

I just felt that I hadn't had anything to say for a while.

I made a mistake on the reg, i pressed the wrong number. it should be PXP801 NOT 901.
The reg numbers where a block issued to the Home Office
