1954 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight (but called 98 on IMCDb for unknown reasons), looks like a 4-Door Sedan. |

It's differs between model years. It was decided to put 98 for all model years up to 1970 and Ninety-Eight for all 1971+ to put them together but I think it's wrong. We are giving them wrong name deliberately for our own convenience. It's just lazy. |

If they were really marketing decisions to change the name between model years and not just inconsistencies in advertising. |

For 1954 Oldsmobile calls it 'Ninety-Eight' and the other two models Super '88' and '88' in the different brochures. The cars had Ninety-Eight badges and the other two had 88 badges. To me it seems that they really tried to set the Ninety-Eight apart from the 88's, I don't think it's just a hiccup in the advertising. 1954 Olds brochure 1954 Olds add 1954 olds specifications <-Note that 98 is used in the text. So it is true... The 1954 batch should be changed. On the other hand it's something that will have to be watched and explained forever, perhaps convenience is better. |
