My mistake, from Honda website: "In 1986, Honda of Canada Mfg. (HCM) began production with the assembly of the Honda Accord, leading the way as the first Japanese automobile manufacturer to establish a production facility in Canada. Honda opened its manufacturing plant in Canada as part of Honda's global commitment to building vehicles close to where they are sold. In 1988, the plant switched to producing the Honda Civic a model that the Alliston plant continues to produce." So they were made for 1987 only (Production started on November 3, 1986). I was thinking that only the Civic was produced (then) in Ontario. -- Last edit: 2016-08-02 00:30:44 |

my book says up to 1991... surely a mistake, maybe it got mixed up at some point with the Civic and they never corrected it until the 1992 book came out ( bad thing about books its if there is a mistake, they can't recall them to edit... ![]() -- Last edit: 2016-08-02 00:39:55 |

If it was like the US, they probably still imported Accords from Japan and the US to meet demand. The US-Canada trade deal was finalized in 1987, so Honda could afford to switch production to the Ohio plant for Canada, while making Civics in Ontario for the US. My Ward's Automotive Yearbook sources have Honda selling about 12K Canadian-made cars and 55K imports in 1987, so I think it shows that Honda was selling both Canadian Accord and imported Accords that year. -- Last edit: 2016-08-02 00:52:39 |
