Ford may have thought it had the answer, but the specification of their chassis left much to be improved. Was this car a lot cheaper to buy compared with a VW at the time? I know the beetle wasn't perfect, I had a 1960 Deluxe, but at least you got four gears and independent suspension.

That's 1950 Spezial.

the Ford was much cheaper 2750 DM compared to 3750 for the VW in 1950. The tools had to be redeemed from Ambi-Budd in soviet zone first
Did you know the first postwar Taunus was built to order in Wolfsburg and at Karmann Osnabrück until 1948. The Spezial had 4 gears, too.

In Germany the car connaisseurs have the opinion, that the 1948 "Buckeltaunus" ("hunchback Taunus") was the last reliable Ford for half a century until the Focus was released.
