That's a real hard nut. In the DDR there were no special Hearses, except less than 10 handmade by a private craftsman on Dacia 1300-basis. Common were slightly converted (but not the body-structure) Barkas. This Hearse looks very Western style (West German, I'd say), but the plates are DDR-sheme and DDR-size. Something (probably Mercedes or Volvo) imported from West Germany. |

Really DDR-style plates? I was sure, that this one was on West-Germany plates... |

This episode must have been filmed before German reunification, because the police cars are still marked "Volkspolizei". |

Yes, definitely a DDR-registration. See the combination three letters-one or two ciphers-two ciphers and the segementation on the plate. There were some DDR-plates, made with West German tools, mainly from the 11 monthts between the fall of The Wall and the unification, but also a few from the time before. When for some reasons the plates were made in West-Berlin. But here the lower height of the DDR-plates is clearly visible. It doesn't have the common West German measures of 52cm x 11cm. -- Last edit: 2016-03-07 16:41:45 |
