It's a 1975 Coupé (four rear lights). The Opala was introduced in 1968 (Coupé in 1971) by General Motors do Brasil and it was based on the 1966 Opel Rekord C. -- Last edit: 2007-02-16 02:59:46 |

Rear lights style copied by 1960 US-Chevy Corvair or by 1970 Opel Manta -- Last edit: 2007-02-17 01:10:42 |

Opala was a very bad car. Unstable, fast, then unsafe. Four cylinder engines (2500 cm³) vibrate too much and 6 cyl (3800 and 4100) were too heavy, making rear end a crazy piece. Meanwhile it was a commercial success, very nice to see and comfortable. The heritage of the name was derivated from Opel and Impala (this car was a must in the sixties in Brazil) so that those round rear lights were based on the Chevrolet Impala, good enough to brazilian drivers taste. By the way, my father had two 4-cyl Opala, but I never bought one. |
