https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/jeep/auction-2586047733.htm https://www.carjam.co.nz/car/?plate=GCQ91 This Jeep is for sale. It's a 1989 model Canadian-built LHD model sold new in Japan and imported to NZ in 2011. The motor was originally a 4.2L 286 engine, but in 2013, was upgraded to a 1UZ-FE. The gearbox was also upgraded to a 4-speed Toyota automatic. -- Last edit: 2020-04-22 12:56:09 |

By the VIN this is a 1988 MY. Vehicle history.com- Trim Sahara carfax: 1988 JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA VIN: 2BCCZ8122JB534846 This is also a USA model. Canada would not pull results on Carfax or Vehiclehistory.com as far as I know.. -- Last edit: 2021-08-10 21:13:45 |

Must have been brought over here new as a gray import. We have a vibrant gray import market, so while Jeeps aren't the most popular gray import brands, I wouldn't be surprised it some US-spec units made their way to Japan. |

Carfax might give results for a canadian vehicle if it has been registered in US , i've seen this once with an Acura EL with CA plate don't know for vehiclehistory as i did not knew its existence back then when i checked the EL -- Last edit: 2021-08-10 17:25:04 |

@baube wasn't your model name TJ though and not Wrangler? Or was that a later generation? |
◊ 2021-08-10 19:01 |
yep, well, YJ for our friend here as its the generation before the TJ we would have to find a canadian Jeep that got registered in US to know how they deal with it, might be one of those situations like, you know.. like the Econoline vs E-Series thing.. but if it was sold new in Japan it probably never got registered in NA does Japan calls it Wrangler ? funny, i always thought they were built only in US but wiki says they were built in Canada until april 1992 -- Last edit: 2021-08-10 19:05:34 |

We would need our friend Jnglmpera to chime in with that information. |
◊ 2021-08-10 20:16 |
he says in his comment that it probably got in as grey import. Maybe it keeps its original name then.. or is it Carjam that calls it a Wrangler ? that's a mysterious mystery.. something just popped up in my mind... apart from the assembly place, what told us that it was meant to be for Canada, could be a US spec one also -- Last edit: 2021-08-10 20:31:31 |

The spoiler is from cajam. The next line is from vehiclehistory.com and the third is from carfax. |

OK, so 1989 would be the year it got registered in Japan. |
