Between 1978 and 1980 GM made a try to enter the West German market with US-models. At least only with the Caprice Classic and the Camaro. |

FYI: While that series of US Forces in Germany POV plate is like the 1983-90 issue,"JG 4292" would've probably been issued closer to 1985?? (And I guess they've tried to cover a "D" oval on it's trunk,we of course had the "USA" oval? -- Last edit: 2015-08-22 19:50:41 |

It's all a made-for-movie-fake, so don't boether about that details. The most probable detail is, that it's really one of the Caprices, sold originally here. Nowadays there are masses of used US-import-cars over here, mainly classics, also quite new cars, but usually not 80ies- and 90ies stuff. yes, together with the Citiation. But both, also the Chevette, in very small numbers, less than Camaro and Caprice. In the BeNeLux-Countries appeared a few more of them, AFAIK in Sweden, too and of course in Switzerland. |

I noticed those export mirrors as well,I was probably thinking it was out of Switzerland from new, simply for me recalling the Caprice/Impala being more popular with the Swiss than with the Germans??? |

In Switzerland US-cars were all the times more popular than in Germany, but as I told, around 1977-1980 there were a larger number of US-cars than usual sold here, mainly Camaros, Caprices. Re-imported used cars, mainly classic cars, from Switzerland we do have here, but still in much smaller numbers than from other European countries. Caused by the fact, that Switzerland is not an EU-member, so you have to pay import-tax and have to do a lot of paperwork to arrange that. Plus annother fact, that for us €-Europeans the prices in CH were always very high, and they increased a few months ago a lot. For that reasons Switzerland is totally unattractive as a destination for buying cars (or anything else). And for vacations neither. |
