Excellent. I never knew Isuzu built Audax-series convertibles, but this must be J-made for (Super De Luxe) side trim and not-exactly-UK grille detail. Fairly sure this is equivalent of 1960 UK S3 (no suffix) - grille design, rear wings without roll-over fins - so PH300. |

In researching Isuzu Hillmans I found no evidence that Isuzu built the convertibles. I’d be surprised if they tooled up to do so. They did have the sole right to sell Hillmans in Japan, and would have been able to import fully built up vehicles. I kind of expect that this is an imported car rather than a Japanese built one |

The screen pillars are different from UK format - seems to have a weld line or drip channel and in thumb a notch for the hood to rest - compare this one. Also the door looks possibly shorter than normal convertible and I started wondering if I could see a ghost rear door outline, although the sill line is clearly visible on UK convertibles. So might be a chopped and welded Isuzu saloon, and may well have been done in Japan as the most likely explanation, possibly even by Isuzu themselves as an evaluation or show car. |
