Floride or Caravelle, I'm always waiting for a knowledgeable one to say. |

Caravelle was the name of the Floride on the US Market when Renault launched this new model in 1959. But in Europe (and on other markets) the car was named Floride (Coupé, Cabriolet and Convertible = cabriolet with Hardtop) from 1959 to 1963. In 1962, Renault launched (on worldwide market) a new version of the Floride, named ...Caravelle, as a larger fixed-head Coupé , with new 956cc 48HP engine, a specific body , no more air-intakes on rear sides and new type of rims with 8 holes. In the same time was launched a new model of the Floride Convertible with this new engine called Floride S , as the new Caravelle it has no air-intakes on the sides and same kind of wheels. 1963 is a transition year with 2 models: Floride S (convertible), and Caravelle (coupé), the previous Florides are abandonned. In 1964, the name Floride disappear from the range, and both models cabriolet and coupe are named Caravelle 1100 due to more powerfull engine 1108cc 55HP. We can recognize these types by the letters C A R A V E L L E on the front. In 1966, the Caravelle becomes 1100 S with 57,5HP engine. No further modifications until the last year of production in 1968. |
