Information from Corgi Vanguards VA04513 1:43 diecast model - "Production of the Allegro’s 1300cc engine was reduced due to preparations for the forthcoming Metro during 1978 so BL created the Special LE to maintain production levels. Priced at only £2,965.95 to tempt buyers away from the 1300, it offered a 5-speed gearbox, Sundym tinted-glass, passenger-door-mirror, lockable fuel-cap, fog-lamps, tachometer and a leather steering wheel. Launched on 5 April 1978 and publicised as ‘The Allegro of a Lifetime’ just two metallic colours were offered; Tara Green and Astral Blue". any better pic of the VW Golf I, especially of the back panel. As chrome door handles (if not replaced by the owner), it can be a very early one. |

Seems the Allegro Special LE was only made at Seneffe in Belgium. Many late 70s Allegros and other Longbridge stuff for UK (eg even some Maxis) were Seneffe-made with RHD, while many were still made at Longbridge - apparently if the VIN plate starts with a B it was made in Belgium. |
