1937 Humber Snipe. A photograph of this same car (DLF 90) appears on page 70 of "Cars of the Rootes Group" by Graham Robson, (Motor Racing Publications Ltd 1990), where it is captioned as follows: - "This is a 1937 Model 27hp Humber Snipe , photographed in the 1980s - the car having been stored from 1967 to 1987! This model was one of the first to use the famous Humber "Blue Riband" six-cylinder engine." It also appears in several locations on this database labelled as a "Humber Six" and as 16hp or 21hp. I have never heard of a car called a Humber Six, and Robson doesn't mention one in his book, the 1930s Humber models listed being as follows: - 12hp:- 1932-1937 16/60, Snipe 80, Pullman:- 1933-1935 18hp, Snipe:- 1935-1937 Pullman:- 1935-1939 **16hp, Snipe:- 1937-1940** Snipe Imperial:- 1937-1939 Super Snipe:- 1938-1940 The registration plate dates it as Nov 1936 to January 1937, issued by London County Council. PS I have never heard of a car called a Humber Six, but I have heard of, and smoked, a cigarette called a Number Six. -- Last edit: 2014-07-06 18:47:06 |
