Is it just me, or is this one of the few 70's police shows where the department doesn't use Dodge/Plymouth cop cars (especially the Dodge Coronet/Monaco & Plymouth Fury)? |

It'd make sense. Mopars used to control, what, 60% of the police car market? That'd cross over into TV, except in a show like this which would undoubtedly be Ford-sponsored. |

This show was Ford-sponsored? Also, how many Canadian cop cars were Mopars? Does that 60% relate to the US or Canadian market? |

There'd have to be some kind of Ford affiliation, since the main characters both drove Fords, and a Starsky and Hutch model of the Gran Torino was offered for a couple of years. As for the 60%, I was thinking more that it was the US or North America, although even then I'm not sure of the accuracy. However, an article on Allpar mentions that at in 1978, 80% of the police cars built for the US were Plymouths. (http://www.allpar.com/squads/history.html). Another part mentions that the CHP bought Dodges almost exclusively for about 25-30 years (from the late 50's to the 80's). |

Many series were Ford sponsored. A lot of sixties series were Mopar sponsored. |

Springfield, IL used primarily Ford squad cars in the 1970s. Of its 35 police vehicles, 28 were Fords (including 2 vans): that's 80%. The other 7 (20%) were Plymouths. |

This isn't an LTD, it's a Galaxie. The LTD had a three piece grille. The vehicles for Starsky & Hutch were supplied by Ford. -- Last edit: 2012-11-16 18:47:29 |
