I checked and here we didn't get the 827, only coupé version in 1992-93 (since very late 1992) was the 820 Ti ![]() |

Which is interesting as here we never got the Turbo version until later and with the Vitesse styling. ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-08-23 00:05:56 |

Interesting, I didn't know that. But also for the sedan? We got sedan 820 Ti Turbo since April 1992. About the coupé, we got: 820 Ti Turbo (180hp) since November 1992 to December 1994, 820i Turbo (200hp) since January 1995 to September 1998 and 825i V6 since April 1996 to March 1998. |

We had the Turbo engine on the sedans and fastback from launch (sold as Vitesse cf: /vehicle_764924-Rover-Vitesse-R17-1995.html ), just not the Coupe. Coupes here were 827 only until (I think) the refresh in 1996, then we had 825s, the 200ps Turbo and also a NA 820 that was a bit of a slug. I find the naming and the combo of Sterling rims and the Turbo engine interesting too. Out of interest what versions were the sedan and fastback sold in in Italy? |

Like Sandie, I'm a bit confused by this sequence, as my Rover 800 bible gives a different story with - 800 Coupe launched June 92 (with 2.7 V6 engine; text says it was the only Coupe, so they didn't need to call it 827) - June 96 - 2.5 V6 replaced the 2.7, but still called 800 Coupe - March 96 - 820 Turbo Coupe launched with 2.0 4 cyl, renamed Vitesse Coupe in Dec 96. "In some overseas markets, it was always called an 820Ti Coupe" - Dec 96 - 820 Coupe added (not Turbo) and named 2.0 Sterling Coupe. The 2.5 became 2.5 Sterling Coupe " Most of the 820 Coupes were LHD destined for Italy", due to tax bands. Production figures unclear, but the plain 820 coupe was probably less than 500. -Sept 98 all Coupe production ended. So my bible info does not match Bux_48's info, which suggests Italy got a Turbo coupe much earlier than anywhere else. If we follow the book the only Coupe possibility for a 93 film is 2.7. Rover did have the Turbo engines available in 800 saloons (also the 220 Coupe "Tomcat" and the 620Ti), so easy enough to find engines to drop in earlier than 96. Rover clearly seem to have been doing things for Italy which have escaped the knowledge of UK experts. |

I checked my magazines' price lists to be more detailed (my overview came from online archives of Automoto and Quattroruote) and I can confirm that we didn't get any 820 naturally aspirated or 827. I also searched for pics of Italian specs coupés and they didn't seem to have any badging (I vaguely remembered that but I wasn't totally sure as I haven't seen a coupé in almost a decade - I saw the last one the day I passed my driving exam!), here a couple of them (both 820 Ti of course):![]() ![]() Here some pics from my price lists: The facelift sedan entered in June 1992 with 3 versions, 820 Ti Sport, 825 SD and 825 SD Lusso. November 1992, first price lists in which the coupé appears (and indeed is in red), also added 820 Ti Lusso. ![]() June 1994, on the sedan the 200hp replaces the 180hp, and Ti Sport version disappears: ![]() January 1995, the 200hp also for the coupé: ![]() October 1995, basic 825 SD deleted, only Lusso trim for sedans, no changes for coupé: ![]() June 1996 (not April as found online, I think April must have been a typo, as also UK got 825 for June - that's the why I always prefer to check period magazines), 825 arrives and the diesel gains 3hp: ![]() From here onwards no changes in range, except the disappearance of petrol 825 in March 1998. The coupé was discontinued in September 1998, the sedan in June 1999. As you can see, we never got Sterling or Vitesse namings or fastback version on the facelift (we did before that), and the coupé always was called 820/825 Coupé and not 800 Coupé (even if badges were absent). I will post also a pre facelift overview ![]() It's a bit strange that we didn't get that naturally aspirated 820 Coupé, but maybe they wanted to keep it more upmarket, or maybe they deemed that after 1995/6 it was selling less than before. Anyway Rover used to be a good seller here, especially in the 90s, so there could have been specific versions/trims for all models ![]() -- Last edit: 2022-08-23 12:51:50 |

Thank you ![]() I have to precise that on the sedan the 825 V6 went until the end. Anyway petrol 825s were extremely rare, I don't recall ever seeing one consciously, whereas 820 Ti weren't so rare, even if 825 SD was probably the most popular model. I post here as further reference a brief test in November 1994 Gente Motori issue of the just introduced 820 Ti Lusso 200hp: ![]() ![]() |
