W108. Badges look like "280 SE automatic"

Agree W108. But it might be a 250 SE as well.

How can you tell this is a 280 SE rather than a 250 SE?

If one have a look at the film on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OyeIaZE8UBw it's possible (at 0:10:40 and 0:11:45) to see it has the older hubcaps. That makes it far more likely to be a 250 SE rather than a 280 SE.

I'm sorry for being a pain in the neck, but this is most likely not a 1968 MY but 1966 or 1967.
This car looks very much like one I'm trying to get running again after having been off the road for some 10 years, a 1967 250 SE. A car I've known all of my life since my uncle bought it in the spring of 1968, three years before I was born.

This should also have the "Made for Sweden" flag as it's quite different from a German "normal" Mercedes. All cars sold in Sweden had to be approved by the authorities (SWE: typad) before it could be sold, and visible differences are the mudflaps and the reflexes on a stick mounted on the extreme left and right hand side on the lower rear bumper.
This approval buisness was rather expensive for the car importers, as any changes meant another car had to be approved. Therefore only a few models of each make was approved and lower spec models usually not considered as they meant less return for the invested money.
The approving buisness really went berserk from 1976 when tougher exhaust regulations was introduced, making Sweden and Switzerland the only countries in Europe with those and car firms not necessary appreciative. Also Sweden introduced (possible alongside Switzerland this time as well) demands on catalytic cleaning of the exhausts in 1989 and was generally rather against a common market until joining the EU in 1995.
