2008+ model (all 2006-2007 models are gone from the NYPD with a small number of 2008s left.) |

I seriously doubt all 2006-2007 models are gone from the NYPD. This is specifically a 2008 model as it was the first year that the NYPD ordered their Crown Vics with standard black steel wheels and chrome caps and it has the pre-2009 side door molding. |

How long does the NYPD keep police cars in service until they retire them? |

It depends. Most departments keep their main patrol vehicles until they reach a certain mileage. That mileage number varies between departments and I don't know what the NYPD's is. The NYPD seems to have a pretty good vehicle budget so I don't think they're running around with very old cars. However, it's not uncommon for older vehicles to get passed down to divisions not dedicated to regular patrol. A great example is the LAPD. They still have a significant number of 1997 Crown Victorias, although none are currently assigned to regular patrol. It must be the same for the NYPD. |
