'87-'91 F-series. Although, I'm tempted to say this is slightly newer (at least an '89). It doesn't appear that the headlights and turn signals have chrome trim (which would make it a Custom or XL), but then it does have a chrome grille, which the Custom and XL didn't get until '89. I'm also kinda curious as to how this truck is used in the episode (I drive a '90 F-150, it's just automotive narcissism).

Ive seen this truck on Mythbusters, its very basic, like you mentioned Hecubus, its probably a Custom, I know its a 6cyl, 1987 F-150.

Did they pop the hood on this truck? If I remember correctly, the straight six was the only engine to have the EFI badge in '87, but after that, it was on every F-series that wasn't diesel or 4X4.

As I said, if it's a Custom, it's at least an '89. The '87/'88 Custom and XL F-series trucks had black grilles.

It's an old truck that sits behind their shop...apparently a retired shop truck that doesn't run anymore. They've used it in a couple of episodes, and it's seen in the background of many more. It's missing its rear axle, for some reason, so any time they use it they lift the back end up with a forklift and push it into place with someone steering.

The pics here are from the episode where they were trying to see if a .22 caliber bullet would discharge if they stuck it in the fusebox. They've also used cola to clean the bumpers on it and degrease the engine, as Firebird said.

I think this is a base model. Does this truck have the "Dog Dish" Hubcaps? Base Models tend to have those hubcaps. It looks like a 2WD.

I seem to remember them using this truck to see if you use a bullet to replace a fuse (bullet as the fuse) if the bullet could go off.

The announcer referred to it as "Jamie's old truck" in one of the episodes it was featured it. It was used in a handful of tests throughout the first couple of seasons, and even in the most current season it can be seen sitting in the grass behind the shop in the background.

Actually they had the EFI badges in 87 on 302's.Not sure about the 351's however. And if the truck was a 4x4,instead of an EFI badge, they had a 4x4 badge.
