It has the grille of a mid-1950's Dodge, and I think I see the word "Dodge" under the logo. So we at least know who built the chassis. |

Even before "business casual," it must have been a little unusual to see the driver of a beat-up delivery van wearing a suit and tie. |

Dodge Forward Control Chassis. With the grille of the light-duty C-Series, as (almost) said by Ddey65, so a 1954-56 1-ton DN / 1½-ton GN. The length of the truck can't be used as a clue to tell one model over the other: the DN has 116"/2.95 m and 126"/3.20 m as possible wheelbases, while the GN has 108"/2.74 m and 129"/3.28 m as possibilities. But this truck has medium-/heavy-duty wheel rims and dual rear wheels, meaning a 1½-ton GN model. (1956 Dodge Forward Control Chassis DN/GN brochure cover) Of course, this is a temporary identification until someone identify the body and thus the coachbuilder, which may give another model name. For the record, the GN was announced with a GVW of 15,000 lbs (6.8 t), a bit more than the 14,000 lbs (6.35 t) GVW written on the side of the vehicle (see night cub's 2nd thumb). 14,000 lbs only to remain as a light-duty class 3 vehicle? -- Last edit: 2015-07-14 04:20:50 |
