It’s permanent all-wheel drive, as the front hypoid-type live axle is visible. The four-wheel drive system had High Loc, High, Neutral, Low, and Low Loc modes. In normal driving (as shown in the capture), High mode was used. In High mode, direct high range gearing was used with the center differential unlocked. -- Last edit: 2012-07-07 17:21:47 |

The Ford F-250 is also all-wheel drive, but is not permanent like the Suburban. The Suburban’s drive system is sending torque to all four wheels at all times, whereas the F-250’s drive system is sending torque to just the rear wheels. You can see the Ford’s front live axle and how it’s front differential is offset on the drivers side, vs. the Suburban’s front live axle and how it’s front differential is offset on the passengers side. |
