Introduced in 2006 for the 2007 model year. Model range is 2007-2010. Uses a Haldex 3.0 automatic four-wheel drive system, from Haldex Traction AB. The Haldex 3.0 four-wheel drive system was unveiled in 2006. Designed for use with transversely mounted powertrains, it uses a longitudinal propeller shaft that runs from aft of the front transaxle, to the rear transfer unit positioned fore of the rear axle. The transfer unit is connected to the rear axle. Inside the transfer unit lies the hydraulically engaged center multi-disc differential. There is no geared center differential; rather the multi-disc clutch pack performs the task of the center differential as well as transferring torque. The Haldex 3.0 system is also used in the Volvo XC90 and a Ford designed equivalent in the Explorer (U502). The Explorer’s version uses an electrically engaged multi-disc clutch pack rather than hydraulically. |
