French made car. Panhard ? EDIT: 90% sure it's a 1896-1897 Panhard & Levassor -- Last edit: 2006-08-26 18:23:19 |

-- Last edit: 2006-08-27 01:20:06 |

I've been checking..and there were cars being sold around Europe at this time (1896 german cars being sold in france, england etc..) ..could it be possible for cars ..from Europe/GB being shipped to the USA (..I think so.!) |

I believe this is the same vehicle, from the Matropolitan Magazine feature on this event. It was the first run in New York City by the Automobile Club of America, November 4, 1899![]() -- Last edit: 2006-08-29 11:03:22 (antp) |

In the marvelous and extremely accurate book "Panhard & Levassor - entre tradition et modernité" de Bernard Vermeylen, the car is called "Char à bancs 6CV M2F avec capote". It was built from 1896 till 1902. In 1896, 34 were built and 6 exported (though it is not stated to what destination), during the total period 992 constructed and 79 exported (but only 15 till 1900). -- Last edit: 2007-02-10 01:34:56 |
