I went to Duke University in the 1990s when this movie was filmed. I remember this Crown Victoria was always parked in this particular spot on West Campus. It was one of the university's cars. You could only park in those spots if you worked in the administration building (the Allen Building) which is in the background in this scene. The bus is an actual Duke University Transit bus. It was #DU-365, and was a 1962 GMC Coach. -- Last edit: 2020-10-13 12:44:31 |

I was at Duke in the mid 1970's, njot33. Stayed off campus at a boarding house and walked to and from. Used to pass this BEAUTIFUL two-tone green 1956 Chevy every day. Always looked for it! |

That's a cool story! I assume you lived off of East Campus if you walked from a house to campus. In the 1990s, Durham was full of old cars from the 70s and sometimes even the 60s! The people in town were poor and didn't buy new cars very often. They also apparently lasted because of the lack of road salt in Durham. I would see cars in Durham I hadn't seen in years! I used to love driving around and seeing 20 - 30 year old cars people were using as regular transportation. I still remember a particular 71 Olds Delta 88, a 67 Olds Delmont 88, a 66 Pontiac Bonneville, and a 65 Buick LeSabre that were around. I am sure in the 70s there were lots of 50s cars still driving around. Durham is not like that anymore. The oldest cars are probably from the mid 90s now, but they don't look old the way the old cars back then did. |

I'm sure there were other 50's cars visible from time to time (including my own 1957 Studebaker which I drove to campus when it was raining) but that 2-tone green Chevy is the one I particularly remember. It was regularly driven and excellently maintained. (I stayed at a boarding house on West Club Blvd.) |
