No, it's a US spec 1983 Volvo 244DL (this rear lamp & plastic bumper combo only sold for 1 year)

yes, they were (only 244 and 245 as 242 ended in 1981??) - anyway I never saw 1983 with these lights.

Celle-ci, c'est une 244 d'avant 1983. Pas une 240, dont les feux arrières sont totalement différents.

The bumper came on the 1981. The tail lights were replaced for the 1983 model year = this is a 81 or 82.

This is the correct answer. The US-spec Volvos in 1981-82, had the older short bumper, with chrome tops, surrounded by black trim, so it would look like a black border below the taillights (except the GLT/Turbo models which had small all-black bumpers). In 1983, the newer, longer black plastic bumpers, surrounded by chrome trim (so below the taillights was a chrome border), were introduced. 1983 was the last year the small taillights were used on the DL sedans.

This link provides PDFs of Volvo brochures for these years. You can see what I am referring to in the 1981 & 1982 brochures and ads. The 1983 brochure has a mixture of bumpers, so I would guess it was photographed before some of the 1983 models were available. The 1983 ads for the DL/GL models show the newer bumpers.

I still haven't figured out what our criteria for when these models transitioned from full numbers (242/244/245) to 240. From 1980-85, in North America, they mainly just used the trim levels (DL/GL/GLE/GLT/Turbo/Diesel).

The criteria so far seems to be what the badge says. On this one it seems to be solely DL on the badge.

By rights I guess this should be listed as DL like the two others so far.
