There is no such thing as a 1971 3500S Federal Series 2. 2000 TC S2, yes, but not the 3500S - though a few S1 3500S cars were sold as '71s in the States. I brought up the original 2012 version of that page from the Wayback Machine, but could not load the pictures. I have James Taylor's book if you'd like me to share anything specifically from it. I also can ask the Federal Rovers Group for current Excel production sheets from the archives, if you wish. No badge on C-pillar so this should be S1 of some sort. Agree Taylor has no mention of S2 3500 S (the S being the letter used for US 3500 Federals, all of which were automatic; this was a year or 2 before Rover confusingly re-adopted the 3500 S for the new manual version, none of which went to Federal US markets). The only Federal Mk2s were 222 2000 TC from Oct 70 to August 71, after which Rover pulled out of US for a few years until the SD1 appeared. Standard Catalog has nothing additional. Leaving aside the Kitman claimed ID as no longer pursuable, this looks like a late S1 with chrome side strip and colour - impossible to split 2000 TC or 3500 in this view or even confirm it's Federal. But 70 3500 S Federal S1 should be fairly safe. |
