It's a 1981-1987 model based on what is visible, equipped with a Fleetside bed. It's definitely a 1/2-ton truck and appears to be a K-10. I suppose none of the front end was visible? |

It is indeed a four-wheel drive half-ton. Note the manual locking front axle hubs. There is a chance the automatic self locking front axle hubs were replaced with the manual ones, but since they appear to be the factory style, I doubt it. The automatic self locking hubs were introduced for 1981 and were originally fitted as standard. However the buying public preferred the manual locking hubs, and so the manuals became standard (again) around 1983 or so. So that could give a clue as to the pickup’s model year. Perhaps owners didn’t "trust" the automatic hubs, as they were new (at that time) and people had long been use to locking the hubs themselves. A new 4x4 system was also introduced for 1981. Shift-on-the-move four-wheel drive with two-speed dual range transfer gearbox and permanent 50/50 torque split. The all-new New Process Gear 208 transfer gearbox had an aluminium case and boasted full synchronization with the transmission, allowing for true shift-on-the-move capability. |
