This is the 1948 taxi prototype by Renault, based on a Juvaquatre. Since 1949 it has been tested as taxi in Paris, but it never made it to production. |

In France we said "Monospace" This "Taxi 49" is really the first "monospace" 35 years before the Matra/Renault "Espace". 10 of this Car was built, the Body is from "Rosengart" the mechanic is by "Renault". -- Last edit: 2011-07-09 07:43:27 |

But was Monospace really part of the name? I'd say this is a much more modern denomination... |

No terme "Monospace" was not used in 1949 of course only "Taxi49" |

Misfortune, none of these taxis have survived, all were destroyed after being worn in the mid-50, I've got this information by the son of the leader of the taxi company that had these 10 taxis in Paris. Marc from the Juvaquatre Renault Home Page (JRHP) |

According to the book "Renault Juvaquatre 1938-1960" from J.P.Baraillé & P.Fraysse - Ed.Pixel Press Studio, 10 cars would have been produced by Renault as Type AJD, those would have been sold to a Taxi company... but this one remains unknown for the authors. Therefore your info is interesting as it confirms with precision this fact. -- Last edit: 2013-07-28 12:28:50 |
