This would appear to be a 1910 Silver Ghost, although DVLA lists the date of first registration as 1921. It may be that the car was sent abroad when new and returned to the UK in 1921. |

UK records for cars older than 1921 were locally compiled so vary in accuracy/completeness, and often have quirks - 1921 was the first time they were compiled centrally so in some cases that became year zero simply as a clerical short cut. What do you read the plate as? If it's NH xxxx, the series ran from January 1904 to June 1930 ... |

"NH" is a series for Northampton County Borough Council. In the original allocation, Northampton was given "DF" but in those far off days this was used as an abreviation for "D-mned Fool". The people of Northampton objected so "NH" was allocated in July 1905 and commenced from then. Optionally, people with "DF" registered cars were permitted to request a change to "NH" if they wished. "DF" was later allocated to Gloucestershire in less sensitive times (June 1926). A similar thing occurred with "BF" originally allocated to Dorset County Council, but changed to "FX" effective January 1905. "BF" but only in 3 letter sequences starting with "CBF" was allocated to Staffordshire commencing August 1960. -- Last edit: 2011-09-13 22:45:16 |

Further to my previous post, I believe the registration may be NB 6104. If so, here's a pic I took of the car in 2007. The headlamps may have been modified - in the movie, they appear to possibly be later Springfield lamps which would not have been original to the car.
