1946 Roadmaster. I can tell by the subdivided window of the rear department. Otherwise it would be a Buick Super. |

If you check pictures of Buicks of this era you will find that the Super and Roadmaster used the same body. The only difference between the two is the extra length of the engine hood of the Roadmaster to accomodate the longer 320 cubic inch engine. I can't be 100% certain but I think this car is a Super because the front fender does not look long enough for it to be a Roadmaster. From this angle I am not sure we can tell whether it is a '46 or a '47. -- Last edit: 2011-03-24 09:43:11 |

You're right about the extra length of the engine hood, but have you ever seen a BuickSuper of this era with a subdivided rear window? I haven't. |

Welcome to IMCDb, Anntike! I really appreciate that you that you gave a complete answer. Not just telling 'this car is XX' but 'this car is XX because of YY which differentiates it from the similar looking car ZZ'. But I have to concur with NZcarnerd that both Super and Roadmaster of these years had the same rear body, only difference was the 5 inch longer front (and the engine). See for example this 1947 Super: Link to "upload.wikimedia.org" , but many other exampples can be found by Google images... |

Oh, you're right. See, i referred to an encyclopedia with thousands of pictures by Tad Burnett, you'll maybe know it. Any I just re-looked at the Buicks, and indeed in an upper corner I see a Buick Super fitting the picture here. My bad. And: Thanks. -- Last edit: 2011-03-24 12:30:29 |
