Higgins says to the chauffeur "I say, it's a 1936, Gurney Nutting Sedanca Coupe, isn't it?" That sounds like something the people making the episode would have been sure of when writing the line. Is he correct? An additional three screen shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2011-03-21 12:11:53 |

The registration DXA was issued in London in February 1937. American terminology for body types differs from British, to me a sedanca should have a fixed roof over the rear and an openable roof above the driver. As for the coachbuilder, Robgeelen will probably come up with an answer. http://www.remarkablecars.com/main/rolls-royce/rolls-royce-00035.html |

RR 25/30 seems clear. This body style is known as Sedanca by some coachbuilders, and they were a specialty of G-N... |

robgeelen2 - I'm at a loss on a few points, could you please explain to me what "Ch. GAN73" means? And was the car especially made for a person by the name of "D. Scribbans"? Is this information that Rolls-Royce provides for its older vehicles? -- Last edit: 2011-12-22 03:38:55 |

I'm no Rolls expert, but "Ch. GAN73" is the chassis number - presumably for the 73rd supplied to Gurney And Nutting for them to fit a body. G&N were bespoke coachbuilders, so I guess this was a special order for "D. Scribbans" from their range of styles. RR info sources are a mystery to ordinary mortals but catalogued in detail (for club members?) and my guess - from all the identifications we have - are based on a combination of RR information from sales ledgers and similar from coachbuilders. So RR records state chassis ABC123 supplied to Bodgeit and Ripoff Ltd, and B&R records state fitted with milk float body and sold to Lord DoubleBarrelled-AndBarelySensible in June 1805. Or something like that. These records would have been very useful in period for RR agents when servicing/repairing/upgrading these cars so that it was clear exactly what the individual specification was and any special modifications requested by the owner. -- Last edit: 2011-12-20 14:53:39 |
