June 76-Jan 80, after which wing badge was fitted. 3500 and Oct77+ 2300 and 2600 all looked similar, apart from "The 2600 model has a black and silver polycarbonate nave plate, retained by chromium plated wheel nuts. A similar style of nave plate, but in all-silver finish with black wheel nuts is used on the 2300. Hence both models are marked out by comparison with the 3500, which has full diameter bright stainless wheel finishers as standard." (http://www.roversd1.nl/sd1web/). So this looks like 3500, 1976+. |

I remember one source of SD1 knowledge claims the police 3500 usually had two beacon lights, instead one light for 2300/2600. |

No idea. I'd guess lights varied by police force not car model. But some forces who used 2 lights may have bought 3500s, and others who used 1 light might have bought 2300/2600s to end up with such a result. I've googled some pictures and found a West Mercia 3500 with one light, but this is London so the only reliable info is what the Metropolitan force used. I've thought a few times that a UK police car expert would be very useful for imcdb - a gap exists. |

You're right. I must precise my info. Traffic cars (mostly 2600, many 3500, AFAIK) had two beacon lights. Area cars (usually 2600) had only one. Source: http://www.roversd1.co.uk/g-tyson.htm |
