It's the booted Honda Civic which was sold in UK as Triumph Acclaim - in Italy as well? If so would be made in UK.

We have all Acclaims sign as "model origin UK".
It's just the simplest badge engineering.
I think they should be "model origin Japan, built in UK".

I agree... It is after all a Honda in drag.

Considering some of the cars that Triumph built this was a sad end for them.

The clue is the Japanese twin was made simultaneously.

As the VW Taro/Toyota Hilux-assembling?

Sandie SX

Yes... Same car but one made in Japan and the other at Cowley.

Whatever, done.

@Sandie: with the Taro/Hilux it was different then. Both versions were mounted at the same time in the same factories. The 2x4-versions in the VW Transporter-plant in Hannover, the 4x4-versions at Toyota in Japan. The 4x4 Taro, too, as I've learned recently.

Honda version was called Ballade, though was Civic with a boot.

So much disappeared, that there is no category for these both models at www.mobile.de Same with the Fiat Argenta and the Alfa Arna.

According to Wiki:

Quote An urban myth surrounds the car in that it was claimed it would have to be re-badged for the German market as the name 'Triumph Acclaim' translates to 'Sieg Heil' in German. In truth, the Acclaim was only sold in Germany to British servicemen and servicewomen based in Germany through the NAAFI.

Aha. New for me, never heard before. The car itself is also known only from car-magazines, I cannot remember, that I've ever seen one with German registration. But same with the Honda Ballade.

I overtook one driving round the nürburgring a few years ago. It was racing a Dolomite 1850HL. Both with UK plates.

Just a few minutes after my last posting I found this http://www.merian.de/fotostrecke/fotostrecke-62320-25.html in an article about Beyrouth of a travel-magazine.

@Dudley: you find a plenty of UK-drivers at the Nordschleife. When I had been there some years ago, there was the Porsche 911 Owners Club of GB there, too. They made a club-journey to "The Ring". Many car-enthusiasts-clubs are doing the same, at least every club of any vehicle with just a little racing-history. So not us.

With side strips and all black bumpers it can be HLS. However, despite in 1983 A-R's brochure side strips are not mentioend as extra option for L/HL, Unipart made such add-on also with silver inserts:
