Agree Escort Mk1, trim detail looks similar to UK Super about 1972. Where was this one made?

No idea. The movie was shot in the Philippines which have AFAIK right-hand traffic. And the Mk I Escort was(according to wikipedia) assembled in: Halewood (from December 1967/January 1968 on, RHD only),Saarlouis, Germany(starting in 1970), Nazareth, Israel(1969-75), Homebush, Australia (1970-75), Taiwan (Ford Lio Ho, CKD) and Genk, Belgium(late 1968-early 1970 when the construction of the Saarlouis plant was completed and they took over LHD-production). Sadly, I couldn't find any further information about the assembly plant in Thailand, so I don't know when they started and who sourced them with CKD-kits. But I guess they made RHD-cars only like the plant in Australia. The plant in Israel, on the other hand, did make LHD-versions (logically), but I don't think they had a large-scale production. That would leave the Saarlouis plant as the only possibility- but I think it's rather unlikely as both Australia and Thailand are much closer to the Philippines.

Wasn't the Escort also built in South Africa, too?

Unless there was a CKD operation in the Philippines, I would have thought that they were probably imported fully built up from Saarlouis. The Thailand plant was CKD, so it probably only served the Thai domestic market and probably only existed because of a protectonist mport duty on imported cars. (The same goes for any small assembly plant in a developing country.)

It doesn't seem likely that Ford would ship kits to Thailand, assemble them more slowly (and perhaps more expensively and/or with lower build quality) than at a mass production site like Saarloius and then ship them on to the Philippines. Don't forget that it could have taken days or even weeks for the kits to clear Thai customs - and for the cars to clear Philippine customs.

I have come across some comments that Mk2 Cortinas were CKD assembled in Philippines from UK parts kits, but not with any confirmed details. Unless there was similar for the Escort, I would guess Australia as the most logical source.

Try finding one in the Philippines now. They are all gone.
