Was it also called "Samurai" in the USA? |

By this season it sure was. I remember a few people who had random old SJ-Series SUV's before Suzuki started advertising the Samurai in the US. -- Last edit: 2010-07-05 04:46:35 |

Suzuki sold it's first vehicle in the mainland US in 1986, which was the Samurai and it was the only Suzuki-badged vehicle (not counting motorbikes) sold here until the introduction of the Sidekick and Swift in 1989. I say mainland because the SJ410 and SA310 were both sold in Hawai'i prior to 1986 (I have a Hawaiian SJ410 brochure that states "Not for use on Roads in Mainland USA") Now the SJ410 and SJ413K were both sold in Canada but were not supposed to be brought down here. There was also a private importer/distributor in California (Intercontinental Equipment of San Diego) that imported LJ10's here and sold them under the name Suzuki Brute. In 1986 when the Samurai was introduced here the SJ-Series had only been around for 4 years worldwide. (SJ410 introduced in 1982) -- Last edit: 2010-07-05 10:15:20 |
