Listened to the commentary on this a few years ago, director said they made copies of a car from a Porsche dealer/collector in the Los Angeles area. |

^that would probably be Vasek Polak a prominent Porsche dealer and racer in California back then who is credited as technical advisor in the end. But the whole idea of a 917 replica was bad. The car looks goofy with the small wheels and very short wheelbase. They should have bought a 10 year old real CanAm racer of any kind, no need for a Porsche, it would be miles better. |

Still a very fun movie, with a really fun premise for us car guys. It could have used a bigger budget but the low budget and forced creativity adds to the charm. Also filmed in the greater Toronto area except for some scenes taking place in the desert. The long tunnel sequence was filmed under the Pearson (Toronto Airport), you can see the tunnel entrance on Google Earth. They definitely wouldn't let anyone film in there post-9/11. |

I am listening to the commentary again, and yes, Vasek Polak is the dealer. The director says the car was "a gift of sorts", the producers went to Hermosa Beach south of LA. Vasek allowed the production to make moulds of his Porsches. The director goes on to say some of the cars they made were fast and some could barely drive out of a garage. |
