This is from a YouTube image of a promo for the upcoming episode "Survival of the Hottest" (formerly "Stuck in an R.V.") which will involve Tori Vega(Victoria Justice) and most of the cast getting trapped on the beach in the Airstream trailer that Beck(Avan Jogia) lives in.

Naturally, some vehicle is going to have to tow the trailer there, and I assumed it was going to be some kind of 4-wheel-drive light-duty truck no lighter than 3/4 of a ton. I certainly didn't expect it to be towed by an old Ford Ranger.

Here's a better image:

2SAM564 is a pretty common prop plate.

Since mine was replaced by the one posted by APS221, he ought to be credited for this.

1995-1997 model due to the dash. It's equipped with base XL trim.

This truck is really weird: it definately is a 1995-1997 for it has the rounded dash, as you said, but it also has a 1993-1994 Splash/STX grille and the lower-bumper mounted fog lamps.

for a trailer that size, a full-size 2 or 4-wheel drive pickup truck or SUV would usually be used as the tow vehicle

Has to be an XL due to a black plastic grille.

XL never had power mirrors; which this model has. The grille was swapped in.

Here is the 1997 brochure: http://www.auto-brochures.com/makes/Ford/Ranger/Ford_US%20Ranger_1997.pdf
1995-1996 are on ebay but aren't really useful at reading the options page.
