Saying this generation of the Vauxhall is based on the Opel is like saying the Pontiac Sunfire is based on the Chevrolet Cavalier

Well, it was the same car but with the steering wheel switched for Britain. And the Pontiac Sunfire was based on the Chevrolet Cavalier platform but with different bodywork and badges (and possibility motors). How are they not the same? :??: GM practically invented badge engineering: Taking the same car and building in different countries with different specs with different names and badges. The Vauxhall Cavalier is a prime example.

No, one of the worst examples are the Corsa (Opel, Chevrolet, Vauxhall). And obviously the "T-Cars"

exactly my point, The Sunfire was not based on the Cavalier, They were designed and built together, so one could not be based on the other.

But the Vauxhall Cavalier is a German model that was made for Vauxhall to sell in great Britain that were made on the same platform. If one division of a whole comes up with comes up with a idea and that whole decides to take that idea and apply it to multiple levels of that whole, it makes it just a bit confusing to take what you are saying mainly because of the fact that the Vectra was thought up by a designer at Opel (in Germany) and then made for Vauxhall to sell. So in that vein, this is a German (DE) model that was made for Vauxhall in England (in particular, Great Britain, or GB), which I feel justifies the tag change although that is up to interpretation.

What I am saying is this, while it is true that some vauxhall models are really just opels that have been reworked to sell them in gb when this car was designed it was not designed by Opel just to be sold in europe. It was designed and manufactured by general motors for both brands and markets.

But the idea was created in GM Opel offices in Germany. In that case, this should have Germany as the model origin because the car's designs were created in Germany for any market to snatch up and take as their own model.
