Series III, 109". Note that it's LHD, and the Ministry of Defence registration is in a DIN font.

I can be very precise about what this Land Rover is. It is a late 109" Series 2A military Land Rover (the front grille cannot be seen as its painted black, but the windscreen hinges and dashboard show it to be a 2A), or Rover 11 to give it the correct military title. Its also the FFR (fitted for radio) version. The radio aerials on the wings are easy to see of course, plus there's the side facing 'radio operator' seat in the rear next to the canvass cover over the radio kit, plus the rack behind the cab used to mount more radio kit and weapons. It is also a 24 volt vehicle (to power the radios) and has twin fuel tanks, one mounted under each front seat (single tank vehicles had the fuel filler on the right hand wing like civvy models). The year of manufacture is 1969-1972. Unlike civvy 2A models which were replaced in 1971 by the Series 2, the Rover 11 continued for a further year to fulfill an outstanding contract for the British Army. Quite a number of left hand drives were bought by the Army mainly for use overseas, and I'm guessing these shots were taken in Germany.
