This is (was) my Jeep. At the time, I listed this on Craigslit to sell. I didn't want to part, but it was my daily driver and the summer heat in Phoenix was getting to me. When I listed it, the production company called me to rent it for this movie. Two days for $500/ day wasn't too shabby! This was a 1978 CJ-5 with a straight 6 and granny gear. Upgraded Dana 44's with lockers too. |

The 258 six w/ granny gear was a solid offroad package. Adding Dana 44 w/lockers makes it even more so. The Jeep pictured above has the wiper motor mounted externally as was done from 1972-75. The lower JEEP logo began in 1975. Beginning in 1976 the wiper motor was moved inside with windshield frame. Additionally the top bow recess on the rear panel was phased out over 1977-78. Some promo pics for 1978 models show the recess but rare on regular models. Many '77s have the smooth side. Based on the details above this would be a 1975 CJ5. Of course it could be a 1978 w/ replacement '72-75 windshield. The uniqueness of Jeep is they are often modified! |
