Link to "images.google.co.uk" I think that this may be the second and post-war car, not the first, built in 1939,which had a more "egg-crate" grille. -- Last edit: 2010-01-12 21:17:31 |

According to data , ERA built 2 complete ERA E type 6 cylinder 2.O litre supercharged single seaters plus 1 bare chassis in 1938-1939. Given the war circumstances the cars would not have been fully ready and finished after the war. When the company was taken over by Leslie Johnson in 1947 he acquired one of those prewar cars in the package. The Brooklands revival data mention chassis GP1 .This would make it a 1938/1939 ERA E type ,maybe the first of the 3 built. The postwar G type 1.5 litre GP single seater had a different one piece grille. |

E-Type ERA. "The first was built in 1939 while the construction of the second car spanned the war. The engine was a supercharged straight six of 1488cc" David Hodges A-Z of Formula Racing Cars - Bay View Books 1990. The car with the single piece grille is quite clearly shown in the book, being driven by Reg Parnell in 1947 at Lyon in the French GP and is referred to as the first E-Type There is no mention of any other E-Type being built. The G-Type which followed was a completely different car with a non-supercharged Bristol engine and an offset driving position. |
