San ◊ 2026-06-24 05:50	Definitely not Yellow Coach, "Cruiserette" (the 1209) was an one-off and never made in into production FB wrote Rather 1954 GMC TDM 4801 CPTDB wrote The General Motors TDM-4801 was a 37 3/4 feet Old Look built in 1954 in the United States. The TDM-4801's were built to meet a California rule concerning maximum axle load limits. They featured a shorter wheelbase of 279 inches. 75 units were built for Pacific Greyhound who was the only buyer of this model Jim Husing wrote In 1954, Pacific Greyhound Lines in San Francisco took delivery of 75 GM TDM4801's. The buses were numbered K1450-K1524 initially. The first 15 were assigned to southern CA to work the Long Beach-Santa Monica runs and the San Diego-San Ysidro runs. The buses were 102" wide and 37'9" long. These special California buses were bought to avoid the weight restrictions put on 40' 102" wide buses at the time. The fuel tanks were place over the front axle to take weight off of the rear axle. This Greyhound order was the only stick shift 4801's ever built. In 1957, PGL became Western Greyhound Lines and the buses were renumbered P1450-P1524. In about 1960 WGL became Greyhound Lines West and the buses were renumbered 9450-9524. Most Bay Area commute buses were renumbered into the 9000 series at that time. The only exceptions were the 1954/1955 GM TDM4515's and the 1957 Macks. These iconic TDM4801's ran into the early 1970's when they were sold off to other companies in the U.S. and Mexico. K1468 was beautifully restored by Golden Gate Transit in San Rafael, CA and is part of their historic fleet.
