This particular AMX is a 1969, and it's been featured in a few car magazines. It's owned by a guy from New York named Pete Mungo, and it has an aluminum 6.6 liter Chevrolet V8 making over 600 horsepower, hooked up to a Richmond 6 speed manual transmission. It also has a custom 4 wheel disc brake system with ABS (made from a combination of Volvo, BMW, and Corvette parts), and a full-tilt custom suspension (featuring variable-assist steering and electronically adjustable shocks) that enables it to pull over 1 lateral g on the skidpad. It also has EFI and traction control. It basically mopped up Car Craft's "Real Street Eliminator" contest a few years ago, running circles around several other (mostly late-model) performance cars. It managed to run a 10 second 1/4 mile, and stop from 60 mph in 101 feet (in the rain). |
