I think the two gentlemen are Gunnar Fadum and Per Malling, winners of the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally, with their Sunbeam Talbot Mk. III Sports Saloon. http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/166/numriser0007r.jpg http://img2.imageshack.us/img2/7931/numriser0003.jpg EDIT: Sorry, simply a Mk. III, not a ’Sports Saloon’. -- Last edit: 2009-07-12 22:51:26 |

In 1955 the 'Talbot' part of the name was dropped and it was the called the Sunbeam Mk.III. The bonnet badge also read 'Sunbeam supreme' rather than 'Sunbeam Talbot' and the car advertised as a 'Sunbeam' with the company remaining as 'Sunbeam-Talbot Limited'. "The Rootes boys further complicated the already tangled Sunbeam/Talbot/Darraq etc. marque name problem by dropping the "Talbot" in 1954, smack in the middle of the production run of this car."Talbot" was dropped in England and the Continent because it conflicted with the unhyphenated Talbots then being produced and raced in France and which were just coming to the end of their competitiveness at Le Mans (thanks to the C Type Jaguar)." source: http://wmspear.com/bill/STA// Also in the picture, the three rectangular 'portholes' which were introduced on the Mk.III at the rear edge of the bonnet are visible. Actual Sunbeam advert... Full name: Sunbeam Mk.III 2½ Litre Sports Saloon. source: classiccarcatalogue.com -- Last edit: 2009-07-13 10:55:22 |

Malling/Fadum were Norwegian private entrants with rally #201, with the car delivered to Oslo only 3 weeks before the event. Plate was A 68909. |
