Yes it is, but no it is not. Looks like a 2-seater roadster with a fibreglass canopy over the rear seats, which some European Mini butchers offered as a conversion. Mengers (Oldenburg, Germany) probably the most famous, which they called the Mini Speedy, but they usually chopped and raked the windscreen (sort of like the Porsche speedsters), but this looks normal screen. LHD, so GB letters a red herring (unles they've switched a UK example). Both the other 2 roofed Minis are mildly boyracered but not distinctive enough to ID. If you wanted to twist my arm, I'd accept the cabrio as a Mengers Mini Speedy; the dark red beetle with black wheel paint is probably more secure as a normal 67/68 1300 or 1500?? |

OK I'll go for the Mini Mengers as the most interesting. If I'm wrong someone can shoot it down, but it's unlikely to be too far off the mark. Mengers - alongside all their other weird creations - offered to install Polo GTI engines into innocent Minis. |
