zodiac ◊ 2026-01-21 23:18	This is really a strange one, and nothing I've seen before. That is because I believe it says 244 GL D6 on the boot lid. And having the wider rear lights. As far as I have seen, there were three versions (for European spec.): - the narrow rear lights and a 244 GL D6 badge, which happened only in 1981, (with the 1981+ face lift) - Different narrow rear lights and a DIESEL badge for MY 1982, or - Wider rear lights and a DIESEL badge for 1983+ However because of the U.S. number plate, the wider rear lights PLUS the 244 GL D6 badge, perhaps Volvo skipped the usual GL, only, badge for the 1981 Diesel versions, and called it the full 244 GL D6. -- Last edit: 2026-01-21 23:19:44

zodiac ◊ 2026-01-23 11:07	244 GL D6 is a very strange badge indeed. 244 means series two, four cylinders and four doors. GL means Grand Luxe = a very luxurious vehicle which meant something when it was first used in the early 70's, but later inflation decreased it's value... D6 means a six cylinder Diesel engine Volvo bought from Volkswagen which used it in their LT vans. Hence a four cylinder body with a six cylinder engine. Which was why Volvo changed the badge from MY 1982. It then just said DIESEL. This is a 1981 Volvo 244 GL D6, but I leave to others to decipher the number plate. Perhaps made for North America, but if so it must have been extremely rare. -- Last edit: 2026-01-23 11:08:41
