A modified/modernised Moke? At the back there is some script with the logo in the 1st thumbnail that perhaps say KWiDD or KMiDD, but I'm not sure if it's of any significance. |

Perhaps a Scout which was manufactured by at least 3 different companies: Import Export (1983 - 1985); Automotive Engineering & Manufacturing (AEM) (1987 - 1988); The Sun Motor Company (1990 - 1991) https://www.allcarindex.com/brand/united-kingdom/scout-2 -blank- (I can't any example built by Import Export) -blank- AEM: SMC: -- Last edit: 2025-06-10 21:51:00 |

Good find and good detective work. Agree looks very like a Scout.Brief entry in my Kit Car Bible - I think from previous exchanges Sandie's also got a copy?? - with Scout as make. Says it was one of the better Moke rip-offs, and confirms your source and sequence. All-steel monocoque with Zintec panels, Mini oily bits could be 4 or 6 wheeler. Initially known as TMC Scout, launched 1983 by Lincoln-based Import Export, but stopped in 1985. Revived in 1987 by Automotive Engineering & Manufacturing (AEM) based in Merthyr Tydfil (which means it can be added to the very short list of Welsh car makers) who apparently spent a lot of money promoting it but folded in 1988. Then a 2 year gap until another revival by Sun Motor Company (based in Solihull - a posh part of Birmingham more famous for Rovers) 1990-91. Total production across all 3 efforts about 150 - no separate figures. Brief wiki page. And a 2010+ resto thread of an AEM Scout Suggest we call it TMC Scout as I think I can remember ads under that name in mags of the time. We have different makes called TMC (Canadian buses) and Scout (US motorhome) Scout, so I guess we're stuck with overlaps whichever way we go. |
