We had this discussion before. Hong Kong is, since 1997, under Chinese sovereignity, but no, it is not a part of China. They have their own currency, their own plates, their own economy, and compete as a separate entity at the Olympics along with Macau. Hong Kong is economically separate, and the border between Hong Kong and mainland China is as tightly controlled as if they were separate countries. Cars are imported from all over the world without being subject to the tariffs that protect the domestic Chinese industry. A Chinese moped manufacturer could not simply send mopeds to dealers in Hong Kong as they would in the mainland. They would have to sell to a Hong Kong importer who might put their own name on the mopeds, just as moped importers in other countries often do. |
