Black plastic over-riders are 1977+, which was about the time a firm called Tokyo Arms started importing FX4s into Japan - no details found for how many or how long this went on for.

@dsl is better than me on these older ones, but I'm pretty much sold on FL2, also has a fairly posh limousine style interior probably to be closer to Japanese taxis.

My info on this 77+ batch of J imports by Tokyo Arms Company comes from brief entries in 2 taxi books, which don't specify FX4/FL2 distinction but both mention the interior upgrade to limo and/or mobile office spec for busy executives who spent too much time stuck in traffic. One period book publicity photo has a bright shiny one (no rooflight) in front of a Japanese architecture house, with a smiling girl in a kimono with parasol in front, and it has the same door logos as thumb 1. No idea if they're specific to Tokyo Arms Company or just generic taxi/hire symbols.

In the absence of any other info, I think we can choose whether to call them FX4 or FL2, although a caution that if we convert our batch of these to FL2, we'll also have to remember to use FL2 on any future examples.

Unhelpfully appears as though we have a mix of FX4 and FL2 features in our collection. So maybe best to stick with FX4 pending further intel.
