If you already seen the anachronistic 2nd gen Fargo (Dodge) D-Series, this one at the same Indonesian Communist Party (PKI) political parade scene is also fall to the same anachronistic problem. Here is a Ford D-Series, the successor of the Thames Trader truck that was also present on this scene. Coincidentally it had the same nomenclature as the Fargo (Dodge) beforehand. The truck itself first appeared in 1965 (2 years later after the scene), but in Indonesia, PT Indonesian Republic Motor Company (IRMC) - whom is responsible for distributing the Ford brand here - started to sell these in the early 70s, 5+ years after. Two variants of the truck offered; D0910, the most common variant here & D1210. There is also bus chassis variants present, namely D0710, D0710HD & D0812. The Ford D-Series received a facelift in 1978 (UK), the most prominent change is the headlights that are previously round shape changed to a set of square headlights, also it got a new grille. In Indonesia, this facelift version marketed 5 years after in 1983. Three years later in 1986 its sales stopped after its sales dropped drastically years prior. It can't compete with the trucks sold by Japanese brands (especially Mitsubishi with its Colt Diesel & Fighter), these Japanese trucks was sold here like a lemonade in a hot sunny day. It marked the downfall of the American & European brands that previously ruled here for many decades. The advertisement: ![]() |

I wonder how that happened, as Ford UK stopped making the old front in 78. Maybe (1) Indonesia had a huge backlog of old stock to clear before launching the new front, or [2] they just stopped selling the old front for a few years gap, and then reintroduved in 83 with the new front or [3] Indonesian D-Series were not UK-sourced, but came from Australian production; Aus did update to the new front but maybe a few years after UK changed. We have 2 new fronts from Aus, with 78 dates but those are assumptions rather than provable. Whatever the explanation, it seems there was an interrupted supply to explain the 5 year gap. |
