I found information about a man named Ed Balod who set up his car-mounted telescope on 42nd Street for years. There are a few newspaper clippings here: https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/860280-sky-tel-cover-mar-69-fitz-refractor/ - One undated clipping refers to the car as an "old limousine" that may be the car pictured here, and the telescope as 200 inches (5.08 meters) long; there is no picture - Another later undated clipping has a picture of a "station wagon" but it is clearly a later model than what we see here (presumably the limousine wore out) Or maybe this is some other New York street astronomer. |
