Therefore leading one to say Sisu? |

Not necessarily. Could also be Volvo or Wiima. |

Indigenous to Finland? Don’t forget I was in the motor industry for years, and recall meeting with Sisu to discuss a joint venture, which came to nothing. |

Wiima was also Finnish. |

Comments to the above: When concerning buses, most manufacturers built either the chassis or the body. There're very few that did both. Wiima was a coach builder and did not build chassis, Sisu and Volvo (until recent time) built chassis and not bodies. Common bus chassis sold in Finland when the above bus was made: Sisu, Vanaja, Volvo, Scania-Vabis, Ford, Bedford, Leyland, Mercedes-Benz and possibly Büssing and Valmet. Common coach builders in Finland when the above bus was made: Ajokki, Autokori, Helko, Kiitokori, Kutter, Nummela, Paunu, Trafora and Wiima. Then what bus is it? -- Last edit: 2023-12-23 18:25:03 |

The bus appears very similar to the Swedish SKV, and after some more research I found out that that is no coincidence. Apparently the Finnish coach builder 'Boxer' built SKV on licence, but I haven't been able to find out if it was on the basis of CKD. That might be likely as the name Boxer apparently is derived from the building process where boxes were glued together. But then Boxer added their own twist on the styling. https://en.wheelsage.org/scania-vabis/b55/58_boxer_2/pictures/gy12u7 https://bussidata.kuvat.fi/kuvat/0+Korit/Boxer/ where the 1957-59 bk2 is most similar in shape. The bus is likely to be a Scania-Vabis because of the vertical cast aluminium strip beneath the fuel filler cap. Neither Volvo nor Sisu had that shape at that time. -- Last edit: 2023-12-23 19:06:14 |
